Boss Shad 4 1/2" – The Workhorse of the Trolling Spread

The Boss Shad 4 1/2" is a fundamental piece of equipment for any serious trolling arsenal. Known for its legendary dependability and rock-solid tracking, this 2 oz bait is built to handle the high-pressure environment of deep-water trolling. Whether you're grinding out miles on the Great Lakes or targeting deep reservoir breaks, the Boss Shad 4.5" delivers a consistent, hard-thumping action that big fish can feel long before they see it.

Constructed from cedar wood for that signature responsive vibration, this bait is rigged "Musky Tough" with heavy-duty Eagle Claw 774 3/0 hooks. It is designed to dive deep and stay deep, making it a premier choice for reaching predators holding in the thermal layers or transition zones.

Performance Specs:

  • Trolling Depth: Dives to depths of 20 feet, putting you right in the wheelhouse of suspended trophies.

  • Weight: 2 oz – perfectly balanced to maintain stability at various trolling speeds.

  • Hardware: Outfitted with razor-sharp Eagle Claw 774 3/0 hooks for maximum hook-up ratios.

  • Proven Profile: The 4.5" body mimics a wide variety of mid-sized forage, making it an all-season producer.

Stocked Tactical Colors:

  • Black Sucker: A dark, high-contrast pattern with gold flake for maximum silhouette.

  • Fluorescent Pikey: High-vis chartreuse bars that demand attention in stained water.

  • Mudpuppy: A unique, mottled brown and orange pattern for matching bottom-dwelling forage.

  • Mystic Alewife: Iridescent silver with holographic flash—the clear-water shad specialist.

  • Natural Bluegill: A spot-on panfish imitation with realistic vertical bars and a blue gill-plate pop.

  • White Belly Walleye: Replicates the most popular prey in the system with a clean, white "strike" belly.

💡 Pro Tip from the Water:

While the Boss Shad 4 1/2" is a "set it and forget it" trolling machine, you can trigger more strikes by incorporating turns. When your boat makes a turn, the lures on the inside of the arc slow down and rise slightly, while the lures on the outside speed up and dive deeper. Because of the wood construction, the Boss Shad reacts instantly to these speed changes. Most strikes occur right as the boat straightens out and the bait "lunges" back to its cruising depth—always keep an eye on your rod tips during a turn!
