Heavy-Duty Live Bait Control | Comal Tackle 3" Round Peg Floats
For the late-season Musky angler, few things are as critical as proper sucker placement. Comal Tackle 3" Round Peg Floats are the go-to choice for suspending large live bait in the strike zone. These high-density foam floats provide the massive buoyancy required to keep a 10" to 14" sucker from diving into the weeds or dragging your rig into a snag.
Unlike flimsy plastic bobbers that can shatter in freezing temperatures or crack when a Musky thrashes near the boat, these foam floats are built to take a beating. The 3" diameter offers maximum surface tension, ensuring your float stays upright and visible even when a lively sucker is trying to pull it under. Available in high-visibility Red and Yellow, they allow you to track multiple lines across the spread with ease during that prime fall window.
Why Musky Anglers Choose Comal Round Peg Floats:
-
Sucker-Grade Buoyancy: The 3" round profile provides the lift needed to support heavy quick-strike rigs and large live forage.
-
Winter-Ready Foam: High-density foam construction won't waterlog or become brittle in the freezing conditions of late-autumn Musky hunts.
-
Instant Depth Adjustment: The peg system allows you to adjust your bait depth in seconds as you move from shallow weed edges to deep rock drops.
-
High-Vis Tracking: Bright Red and Yellow options make it easy to differentiate between "left, right, and down-the-middle" sucker sets.

How to Rig a Peg Float for Musky Suckers
Rigging these for a quick-strike setup is straightforward and efficient:
-
Remove the Peg: Pull the plastic peg out of the center of the foam float.
-
Thread the Line: Pass your main line (usually heavy braid) through the center hole.
-
Set Your Depth: Slide the float to the depth where you want your sucker to "hover" above the structure.
-
Lock it Down: Re-insert the peg into the center hole to pinch the line.
-
Pro Tip: For heavy Musky braid, some anglers prefer to loop the line over the top of the peg before seating it to prevent the float from sliding during a violent "sucker run."

š” Pro Tip
The "Sucker Signal": Pay close attention to the "dance" of the float. When using a 3" Comal float, a large sucker will often make the float bob or "tip" as it senses a predator nearby. If your float suddenly stands perfectly still or starts moving steadily in one direction against the wind, a Musky has likely moved in and "T-boned" the bait. Get the net ready!
