Stability on the Bottom | Frabill Flat Bottom Crawfish Trap (Model 1262)
If you’re serious about hauling in a mess of crawfish for bait or a boil, the Frabill Flat Bottom Crawfish Trap is the tactical choice. Unlike standard round traps that can roll in heavy currents or on uneven lake beds, this trap is specifically engineered with a wide, flat base to stay exactly where you drop it.
The Model 1262 features a heavy-duty, vinyl-coated steel mesh that provides excellent durability and corrosion resistance in both fresh and brackish water. Its low-profile, black finish blends naturally into the bottom structure, reducing "trap shyness" and encouraging more crawfish to enter. Designed for efficiency, this trap ensures that once the crawfish enter the large funnel openings, they stay put until you’re ready to harvest.
Why Choose the Frabill Flat Bottom Trap?
-
Superior Stability: The flat-bottom design prevents rolling and tipping, ensuring the entrance funnels remain perfectly positioned for crawling forage.
-
Large Entry Funnels: Dual tapered openings are optimized specifically for the crawling gait of crawfish, providing easy entry but difficult exit.
-
Tough Vinyl Coating: The black coating protects the wire from rust and provides a camouflaged look that disappears against rocky or muddy bottoms.
-
Two-Piece Design: The trap opens in the center for quick baiting and even faster emptying of your catch.

💡 Pro Tip
The Anchored Bait Trick: Crawfish are scavengers and will spend time picking at your bait. To keep them in the trap longer, secure your bait (oily fish heads, chicken necks, or canned cat food) directly to the center of the bottom mesh using a zip tie or a small bait cage. This forces the crawfish to move deep into the trap and stay centered, preventing them from "stealing" bait through the wire from the outside.
