Gapen Walleye Float – Heavy-Duty Stability for Live Bait
Take control of your live bait presentation with the Gapen Walleye Float. Designed specifically for the demands of walleye fishing, these balsa floats offer the perfect blend of high buoyancy and rock-solid stability. Whether you are drifting a slip-sinker rig or hovering over deep structure, the Walleye Float ensures your bait stays in the strike zone and your hits are crystal clear.
Product Overview
The Gapen Walleye Float is engineered to handle active live bait—like large leeches, fathead minnows, or nightcrawlers—without being pulled under. Like all Gapen premium floats, it features a fiberglass through-stem for extreme durability and the patented Slip-N-Lock system. This allows you to switch between a fixed float for shallow weed edges and a slip float for deep-water rock piles in seconds.
Available Models
We stock the two most essential sizes for versatile walleye and bass applications:
-
4" Walleye Float: Ideal for smaller leeches and finesse walleye tactics in calmer water.
-
5" Walleye Float: The "workhorse" size; provides extra buoyancy for larger minnows and handles wind/choppy water with ease.
Key Features
-
Slip-N-Lock Technology: Easily toggle between stationary and slip-float rigging without re-tying.
-
High-Buoyancy Balsa: Expertly weighted to sit upright and resist being "false-triggered" by active bait.
-
Fiberglass Core: Built to withstand the pressure of heavy hooksets and the occasional bump against the boat or rocks.
-
Vivid Visibility: Finished with high-vis fluorescent paint and a premium clear varnish for a long-lasting, waterproof seal.
Model Comparison Guide
| Model | Length | Best Application | Target Species |
| Gapen 4" | 4 Inches | Finesse leeches/crawlers; light wind conditions. | Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Jumbo Perch |
| Gapen 5" | 5 Inches | Larger minnows; choppy water or drifting. | Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Catfish |
🎣 Pro Tip: The "Neutral Buoyancy" Trick
Walleye are notorious for "tasting" bait before committing. To make your 5" float nearly weightless to a fish, add just enough split shot to your line so that only the fluorescent red tip is visible above water. By reducing the float's surface resistance, the walleye can pull the bait down without feeling the "tug" of the balsa wood, leading to deeper takes and higher hook-up ratios.
