Pro Tip: Never bang a metal skimmer hard against the raw edge of a frozen hole to remove ice crust, as this can bend the rim and dull your chiseling edge. For models with flexible poly cups, simply give the cup a firm squeeze with your gloved hand—the frozen ice sheet will instantly crack and pop out. For metal models, briefly dunk the scoop into the warmer water beneath the ice hole for three seconds; the surface temperature of the water will immediately melt the bond and release the slush.
