Rapala Shallow Shad Rap®: The Near-Surface Specialist
The Rapala Shallow Shad Rap® is the go-to solution when fish are holding in skinny water or cruising just above submerged weed beds. It retains the legendary "shad" profile and the tight, high-frequency vibration of the original Shad Rap but features a broken-back style lip designed specifically for shallow presentations.
Constructed from premium balsa wood, this lure is incredibly buoyant. This allows you to fish it at agonizingly slow speeds or "twitch" it on the surface like a dying minnow, making it a deadly choice for Bass, Walleye, and Trout in 2 to 5 feet of water.
Why the Shallow Shad Rap is a Shallow-Water Essential
-
Shallow-Running Lip: Specifically curved to keep the lure in the upper water column without diving too deep.
-
Classic Balsa Wobble: Delivers the natural, responsive action that only real wood can provide.
-
Versatile Speed Range: Swims perfectly whether you are slow-rolling it over rocks or burning it back to the boat.
-
Precision Casting: Weighted to allow for accurate casts into tight pockets, around docks, or near fallen timber.
-
Hand-Tuned & Tank-Tested: Guaranteed to track straight, ensuring your lure stays in the strike zone.

🎣 Pro Tip: The "Wake and Shake"
In early morning or late evening when the water is calm, use the Shallow Shad Rap as a surface wake bait. Cast it out and hold your rod tip high. Retrieve it just slow enough so the lure doesn't dive, but creates a subtle "V" wake on the surface. If a fish follows but doesn't strike, give the rod a sharp twitch to make the lure "jive" and then stop. The sudden balsa-wood float-up is often the final trigger for a massive surface explosion.
